Emeritus Associate Professor of Architecture, University of Oregon since 1999. Began teaching at UO in 1967, and subsequently held several administrative posts, including Associate Dean of the School of Architecture and Allied Arts, and Architecture Department Head.
Michael Utsey has worked in firms in Texas, Connecticut and Oregon on projects ranging from housing, schools and institutions to city and urban planning. He has consulted on projects, and been a member of the planning team for major projects on the University of Oregon campus (Knight Library, Lawrence Hall, Knight Law Center).
Michael Utsey AIA has focused on new and remodeled residences, and small commercial and institutional projects. The practice specializes in energy efficient design, including day-lighting and site planning. We prefer to work with durable, sustainable, material palettes and practices, and have completed a number of timber frame projects. The practice has included large, and modest, residences as well as fireplaces, study bays and kitchens.
